Lamar, I am not thinking of CSC as a Christian outgrowth at all. In Confessions of a Post-Denominational Priest, Matt Fox talks about his first meeting with a rabbi, in which Matt asked, "What do ...

Laughter and humor are a core spiritual discipline that keeps us from becoming so serious about life that we forget to laugh. As serious as life sometimes is, there is always a funny side to most anything.

Profile Information

How did you come to discover Creation Spirituality?
My "soul friend" lent me Matt's book, Confessions: The Making of a Post-Denominational Priest, and I felt like I'd found my (real) brother. Eerily similar to my own experience, in the convent, in the church, tired of the guilt and shame mentality, much more in awe of the sunset and the sea - GOD! - Here I am!
How would you briefly describe your spirituality? (Be creative! Don't worry if it only seems to make sense to you - we love the diverse and the hard-to-explain!)
Post-denominational ordained minister, deeply interfaith, Eastern influence - Thomas Merton through Thich Nhat Hahn. Feminist, college theology instructor, online expert. Love Gregorian chant, but not the patriarchy. Taught to not doubt, I am free to ask any question, explore any avenue. Play the piano.
What is your first language?
Technically, English, but I think I was born with a strong connection to others, beyond language.

About Eco-Spirituality

God gave us a garden and invited us to grow it.

A few events have converged to remind me of this principle. An ongoing presentation at church on the complex history and development of conflict in the Middle East struck me as an example of the illusion that people own the earth, and may take charge of who lives where, of marking boundaries, of ruling from afar, of treating God’s other kids like pawns in a chess game.

Madoff’s collectibles were auctioned off to pay some of what he owes to the vi… Continue

Response to Spong's Manifesto

My initial response is that when a person works too hard and too long and too passionately, and deals with sadness and a sense of futility, exhaustion sets in.

That said, isn't it kind of tiring to hear folks trying to argue whether or not to "include" gays and lesbians? As usual, a head game is played instead of an opening of the heart. Perhaps the time has come to stop the rhetoric and begin to just let people be, and celebrate one another. "They may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only on… Continue

Hi Mary Ellen,
I'm not sure what's going on with all the anamcara stuff. It seemed to work alright when I checked it (the Community on this site). His other sites, I don't know. I don't know Tony persoanlly, but he delights me when he pops back in here from time to time.

Hi Mary Ellen
I too have several dear friends of the type you describe. And although I wish they were all much closer, physically, and I could see them more often, I am absolutely grateful for the strength of our connection that allows us to reconnect with ease whenever we are blessed to find ourselves in one anothers company. Thanks for reminding me of them. If I need to be reminded I've been out of touch for too long.
Peace, Helen

Mary Ellen-
Well said!! Thanks for your comment on my page about "fitting in". Can't imagine better company to keep than the individuals you listed and I imagine we could add many more "non-fitter inners" to that list with whom I would also love to keep company. Thanks so much for that thought. It warmed my heart and lifted my spirits. :)

Warm and peaceful blessings, Helen

Mary Ellen-

Welcome to "Connecting with God in Nature" and welcome to CSC. Sounds like an interesting path has brought you to this place. I find much more in common with the journeys traveled by people here at CSC than I do at my Episcopal church in Auburn, WA. There I sometimes find myself feeling a bit apologetic and odd for the, anything but, straight and narrow path that I've traveled. And I think that is also why I'm there. I don't really fit and Jesus seemed to be a lot about us embracing those unlike ourselves. What better place, then to do so.
Then here at CSC I can feel that I do fit.

It is great to hear from you Mary! I'm pastoring in Auburn, CA which is about a half hour north east of Sacramento. I've been here nearly 7 years. How about you???

Diane, when I noted that one of our predecessors was one the list, I immediately thought of you. Matt Fox's book on his transformation into a post-denominational priest fits very well with where I am and have been going for a time. Peace! Mary

My camera is broken so please excuse the lack of picture. At one time I actually thought of studying at Matthew Fox's center, so this is a good fit. Thank you for inviting me.

Hey, hey! Welcome Mary! I think you will love this community! Wouldn't it be cool if we could meet in California next year to hear Matthew Fox??? Without a doubt, if he were teaching full time somewhere, I would be there!
