This is a most amazing discussion and very helpful in sharing the dynamics of community which CSCs is keeping in mind as we evolve. There have been a few suggestions about how all this might coalesce into an ongoing movement organizationally, but no…

Bill, thanks for your very articulate blog. You have such a gift for exploring complex subjects in penetrating depth. I remember the struggle we had a UCS in naming a course that Michael Mansfield taught. I believe he wanted to name it Queer Sexuali…

Interview with Matthew Fox, "Hidden Spirituality of Men"

My cousin, David Crumm, did an interview with Matt Fox on Matt's new book "The Hidden Spirituality of Men". David was religion editor of the Detroit Free Press for 25 years. His website readthespirit.com is very resonate with CS. You might be interested in visiting it.

Hello dear Mel... Here is one of the websites for monarch information for your area: http://www.monarchbutterfly.org/ They have all likely dispersed from their overwintering roosts in the eucalyptus groves by mid April, and are now out and about looking for California milkweeds of the Asclepias genus on which to lay their eggs.

One thing gardeners can do to help with their survival is to plant milkweeds - lots of milkweeds...

According to the website http://www.plants.usda.gov, there are 18 species of Asclepias in California. Due to the extended droughts, fires, development of commercial and residential areas, the milkweeds are threatened and with that situation, the overall picture for western monarchs also becomes bleak.

Lots of good info on planting milkweeds in butterfly gardens called "Monarch Waystations" may be found at: www.monarchwatch.org/ws

It's wonderful when a simple action such as planting a few milkweed plants can result in an improved situation for these beautiful butterflies. And so it is with much of life... it's the little things that add up... Paying it forward...

Blessings,
Ina.

Mel,
So good to see your presence on this wonderful CS site. I think often of the wonderful work that you and the blessed late Patte Mitchell did on the UCS intensive in Asheville some years ago. Hope all is well in your corner of the world and that we can catch up in July at Jubilee.

Also, I have a question for you. Have you ever seen the monarch butterfly clusters in Oakland...and Monterey, Pacific Grove and area eucalyptus groves? I've seen the monarch reserves in Mexico but not in California yet. On a recent trip to Oakland for a board meeting of the Michoacan Reforestation Fund, the date was a bit too early for the clusters to have formed. Maybe some day!

Blessings,
Ina. :)

Mel, I'm so glad to see you on this site. I joined CS communities about a month ago, and as the universe planned, James Cooney did as well. Consequently we found each other and believe it or not we are both living in Portland, ME. I'm in Awe.

How are you? What are you doing now? Last time I was in Oakland (last August) I went back to the school and found it no longer there. It made me very sad. There was so much activity and energy around that door and now it isn't. It is making me wonder what that short period of time was all about.

Many blessings to you. Your picture made my heart smile.
