How did you come to discover Creation Spirituality?
Was a member but not active for a year, no access to my old info so starting fresh.
How would you briefly describe your spirituality? (Be creative! Don't worry if it only seems to make sense to you - we love the diverse and the hard-to-explain!)
As an Aboriginal person who is also Catholic, my experience of the traditional Catholic Church continues to be somewhat tense and uncomfortable. Even the idea of inculturation does not seem to work because Aboriginal "masses" are really cut and paste. Cut is the outward symbols of an Aboriginal reality pasted on a mass that is based on western assumptions. This discontinuity has bothered me for many years and now I look towards the development of a theology that is universal, that finds a language that speaks about God (Creator) in a theology that helps a reconcilation between Aboriginal world view and Catholic teaching and spirituality. This is key to the mental health and identity of Aboriginal Catholics.
What is your first language?

Yup, I live in Calgary, but I'm really an east coast girl.  I'm glad that there's another Canadian in class!  I've been in The New Seminary with Ted and Linda and I'm the only Canuck there.

I may end up picking your brain on Aboriginal culture and spirituality, if that's okay?  I'm becoming an Interfaith Reverend and getting a good understanding of Canadian Aboriginal faith and culture is important to me.

Keep all your "bright butterflies" in an 'ideas" file, Bruce, that's what I do. Some of them will see birth later and some won't, and some you'll look at later on and wonder: "What ... ?" Then you're more free to focus on your main project. Make sense, bro?

Hi Bruce,

Your awareness and sensitivities are so close to my heart.  I feel we are all aboriginals in the deepest recesses of our hearts.  Our current language, and resulting life-choices, have cut us off from our original nature and has led to the development of a patriarchy that dominates our minds, but  probably not our souls. (We are still us.)  I've written a few liturgies/ceremonies, and my aim has been to remove "theology" from their form.  In the Native American ceremonies I've been taught, there are few words - and could be conducted in almost complete silence.  I prefer ceremony that emphasizes experience, not dogma.  It also removes all ideation of gender relating to deity, moving toward discovering creation's process as It continues to present It genderless Self.

I'll follow your comments Bruce and send you love in which to ground your much-needed "reconciliation."

On-Line Catholic Philosophical Circles?

Posted on July 31, 2014 at 3:12pm 0 Comments

I have been accepted and will start a four year program and the undergraduate level in philosophy. Because of funding realities I was limited to going to a provincially funded public university here in British Columbia. However, I believe in philosophy we can talk about just about anything, so I wanted to get connected with on-line Catholic philosophical circles so that I can build the catholic component in to my studies.

Would you be able to refer me to some of the circles you may…
