Mel, I hear the thrust of your inquiry. You and others have invested your own resources of time, energy and money to create the CSC website and shape the annual gatherings. Thank you for your gifts, and for bringing the gravity of the title of th...

Among whom do I belong? Who are my people? What community can I trust to consider my personal well-being while they are considering their own well-being, and the well-being of Life? I love my family, and I am loved (mostly) by my family. From a “...

Like the image. What a lovely thought. It's a bit of a twist on the imagery coming out on the tv in ads for the upcoming movie 2012...Rather than real destruction, transformation, transition to the truth deep within. Thanks for sharing. Peace, Helen

So far, my "belonging" to CSC has been a lot like my "belonging" to a church. It's great to know there are folks there who get together in gatherings now and again, and who are dedicated to principles and ideals that I am also dedicated to. It's r...

Hi Bob, The picture of the old black woman (Mother Earth) dressed up and made up & sent out by the pimps of Empire to walk the streets -- a powerful image of both the earth and indigenous peoples that the pimps of Empire neither comprehend nor un...

George, I also recognize the metaphorical power of “the land”, and recoil at the cost to marginalized human populations across the globe. I distinguish between populations that have been intentionally exploited by empire – slaves, and “middle clas...

Hi Bob, I'll send it along to you when it's finished. I also have another story, "The Old Man and the Monkey", that explores similar spiritual themes of being connected to the land and its spirit. Set in a tiny village northeast of Sapporo, Japan...

George, There’s no question in my mind that the “poor” in Jesus’ mouth refers to a marginalized, disenfranchised, and politically powerless segment of the population. It occurs to me that these adjectives accurately describe the people who contin...

I'll respond to each of your numbered points: 1. Since Jesus was a peasant, he was probably more earth-friendly than the "corporate" farmers (land owners) of the day. And John, also a peasant, would have had a similar relationship to it. 2. Inter...

Thanks for the response, George. I'm thinking along a number of lines ... 1. The historical Jesus may have spent time in the wilderness with John the Baptizer, learning an earlier form of Jewish tradition - whether literally "indigenous" or not -...

¿Que? How do you mean that, Bob? Being from a conquered people -- one could even say "chronically conquered" -- one could possibly say that. But if we take the definition of "aborigine" and "aboriginal", can we really? "original or earliest known...

Exilic Community

I'd like to begin a conversation about the contemporary experience of "exile". I usually only hear that word used when referring to the biblical stories of the Hebrew people's displacement from the "holy land", or to a national leader who has been forced to live outside his/her native territory. Having just finished Matt Fox's book on male spirituality, in which he reflects on 10 "archetypes" related to the "hidden spirituality of men", I'm led to reflect on everything archetypally. That include… Continue

Drumformation

It's just a daydream. I see a hundred people standing over their drums, gathered in a circle on a mountain meadow, miles from cities and roads. The drums are big, tympanic instruments, with voices deep and loud. They begin to bounce their mallets on these drums, and within a short time, they have entrained on a single rhythmic pulse. Hi bob! I am looking for a shaman drum played with a stick. I am organizing a drum circle on afternoon Sept. 26 09 in Brome Village Fairground during the Environmental and Green Building Fair. The theme is Healing the Earth. We ask people to bring a drum or percussion.

Hi Bob,
Are you planning on attending the Asheville gathering this summer? Bringing your drums? I'm helping to plan our sacred celebrations and there's room for some drumming if you're interested. Your thoughts?

Welcome to this global community Bob. There seems to be a good amount of CS in Unity churches - I look forward to hearing about your leadership there. And if you plan to come to the event in July - let us know if you want to particpate in music leadership!

Welcome, Bob. Sounds like your community in Torrington is lucky to have you! (Though I'm in Australia, I've been to Torrington for a week a few years back...)

Welcome to here, Bob, hope it's a good place of expression and exploration.
Peace,
Matt
